Muhammadu Buhari , as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress marks the beginning of the end of money politics in Nigeria. The members of the group said this during a solidarity visit to the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, on Monday. The Chairman of the group, Emmanuel Abah, who led the group, also presented a letter congratulating the party for holding a transparent process which led to the emergence of Buhari as the presidential flag bearer of the APC and Dr. Samuel Ortom as the governorship candidate of the party for Benue State. They also said the emergence of Buhari had shown that money politics would soon give way to “competence and selflessness.” Abah said, “The APC has in the short period of its existence has raised the bar of honesty, accountability, transparency among others, setting new standards, providing a formidable and worthy alternative for Nigeria and Nigerians to access justice and fair play as far as politics is concerned in our dear country Nigeria.” According to the group, Ortom, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, represents the hope for a positive change. Members of the group said they had found a good reason to participate actively in politics because of the choices the party had made in recent times. The group also said the choice of Ortom which was through a consensus arrangement among the party delegates, party leaders and other stakeholders was in line with democratic tenets. It noted that the process was a display of the APC’s magnanimity, tolerance and non-discrimination against candidates and party members.
