Bullous Pemphigoid ............................ It is the most common bullous autoimmune disease. In this condition autoantibodies are produced against bullous pemphigoid antigen in hemidesmosomes of basal keratinocytes. Clinical features: Large tense bullae may arise in normal, erythematous or urticarial skin and contain serous or hemorrhagic fluid. The eruption may be localized or generalized, and has less tendency to rupture. Sites of predilection includes axillae, medial aspects of thighs, groins, abdomen, flexor aspects of forearms and lower legs. Investigations: Electron microscopy shows split in lamina lucida of basement membrane. Immunopathology shows linear IgG deposits along the basement membrane zone.
