Bumpy asked me to share this. Randolph Pitts is a good friend of hers who was CEO of Lumiere Films. Randolph had gone to UCLA with Jean Cazes, who had somehow managed to get the French government to become an investor in his film company, Lumiere Films. With that kind of backing, Lumiere acquired the Thorne EMI library, which include 40,000 British films. Some of the films came with remake rights, such as Dr. Who. Lumiere did a few films, including LEAVING LAS VEGAS and CITY OF LOST CHILDREN, but before long, the company was torn apart by in-fighting and struggles to control film production. In any production company, the crown jewel is always film production because everybody wants to be a producer. Nobody wants to be simply the distributor. In the end, Lumiere was acquired by Canal+.
