Bush Celtic provided the opposition for Newbridge Colts in Round 14 of the KDFL Div 2, but the home side collected the points with an eventful 4-2 victory. Colts had the better of the opening exchanges and looked more likely to break the deadlock especially from set pieces. Bush were battling hard and took the lead in the 21st minute against the run of play when winger Hanley’s low cross evaded everyone and sneaked inside the far post. Undeterred, the league leaders continued to play positive football but were unable to capitalise and went in at half-time trailing by the single goal. The break allowed manager Morey to refocus his players and although O’Malley almost equalised within seconds of the restart, Bush went up the other end and doubled their lead in the first minute of the second half. The league leaders were now required to show their resilience and character to get back in contention. O’Brien came off the bench and O’Malley and McCormack swapped positions to give Colts the impetus they needed. O’Toole got the comeback under way in the 67th minute when he headed home a wonderful left wing cross from McCormack. Malone equalised five minutes later when he latched onto a long Flavin throw-in as Millar used his strength to hold off a defender and the striker fired it into the corner of the net. The impressive O’Malley won and converted a free-kick from 25 yards with a low shot to give Colts the lead in the 75th minute and substitute Connolly scored a classy left foot volley on his debut with ten minutes remaining to complete a remarkable come-back. Ryan, Doyle and Loftus ensured Bush were not allowed back into the game in the closing stages and the whole squad were pleased to pick up a hard fought but deserved 3 points.
