Business offers tools for native peoples By Nancy Kennedy “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” — Proverb DUNNELLON — For the most part, well-meaning missionaries and charitable organizations have it all wrong, said Steve Saint, I-TEC (Indigenous Peoples’ Technology and Education Center) founder, in a video presentation. I-TEC is a nonprofit Christian missions organization based at the Dunnellon airport. As Westerners and outsiders, Saint said, we go into a Third World country wanting to help, stay for a week or a month, bring food, build houses, plant crops, do all these things for them and then leave. But is that helping them? Or is true help teaching them how to provide for themselves? That’s the central focus of everything I-TEC does. Basically, I-TEC takes complicated tools and methods and reinvents them so uncomplicated people can use them. chronicleonline/content/business-offers-tools-native-peoples?pc=1 #citruscountychronicle #itec #stevesaint
