Busy few days for citizens against! Most of our team is either on vacation or (in my case) moving into my new house but we still managed to get so much done! We teamed up with Toxic Actions, a non profit group focused on advocating for clean renewable energy since 1987. Theyve helped over 750 communities with issues like the CPV power plant in Oxford. They recently won a similar fight in Mass. and they are providing resources including expert testimony for evidentiary hearings and data on the health risks of plants like this as well as helping to develop a successful campaign. The Town of Middlebury has formed a committee to help formally organize the peoples campaign against the CPV power plant and have appointed me (Joshua Rickards) as Chairman of the Committee. We have created a council of citizens from neighboring towns and are meeting in the next couple weeks with Toxic Actions and town officials to cement our action plan for the campaign. We are still growing the council and ask any interested parties to message us. The petition is a beautiful piece of community outcry and continues to grow. I read through the comments and they are poignant, honest, and inspiring. Oxford residents were the largest contributor to the petition by the way. That says a lot. I provided Jordan Otero of the rep-am paper with a PDF of the petition and within 24 hrs she wrote a balanced article about the fight. Shame on the first selectman of oxford for dismissing his constituents so blindly. Maybe give him a call at 203.906.0348 and let him know that 400$ a year in a tax cut and a new fire truck isnt good enough to risk our families health. (This is a publicly posted phone number for George Temple) Thanks and msg us if you want to formally join the campaign! We need the help! -josh rep-am/articles/2014/08/30/news/local/826172.txt
