By Ahmed Mohiuddin Siddiqui Has Sushma Swaraj forgotten all her duties as the Foreign Minister of India? She is busy furthering the Hindutva agenda by demanding that the holy book of Hindus Bhagavadgita be declared as the national book. Book is a written form of communication. Before any talk of the book, let there be oral communication and discussion about what should be the national gaali (abuse) since Niranjan Jyoti can enlighten on this subject more. Once, the oral communication is settled then we can talk about the written form or any book. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who does not understand the essence of the noble Gita is making a mockery of the holy book. He presented copies of Gita to the Chinese premier and the American president instead of the Constitution of India which is a sacred book for all the Indians. The problem with the communal and narrow minded Hindutva brigade is that they do not hold the Constitution in high esteem. They undermine it because it was written by a Dalit icon Bhimrao Ambedkar. They want to down play the contribution of the architect of the Indian Constitution because of the Manuwadi hatred towards the towering Ambedkar. Invoking Ambedkar’s name for votes is another thing and showing actual respect for his contribution is another. The entire Hindutva brigade allegedly worked as the agents of the British. So, they do not know the value of our constitution. Nobody has a quarrel with Gita. But the nefarious designs are clear. The motive is first to declare it as a national book and then make it compulsory as a subject across schools and Madrassas. The intention is to force the teaching of Gita to students of Madrassas and Christian missionary schools. Just like the singing of Vande Mataram is used against the minorities and the reading of mantras in Yoga classes, the compulsory teaching of Gita will evoke strong reactions from different sections of society. The people of India want the Hindutva brigade to read Gita in their homes and understand its values rather than the gospel of hate preached day in and and day out by the soc-called Sadhus and Sadhvis . The Muh mein Ram Ram Baghal Mein Chhuri attitude of the hate mongers is there for all to see. It is national shame if the Constitution of India is not given due respect by the authorities who take heaps of other books to be presented to heads of states. The prime pracharak should go back to where he comes from. Enough blood – Indian blood – whether Muslim or Hindu – has been shed since the time of independence. Religion should not be worn on sleeves or on khaki knickers but it should be something personal to make better human beings and a strong and united India without any bias and prejudices. Equality and justice should be the new Mantras.
