By Noraini Asmom A simple yet interesting explanation given when a person asked about the tests that Allah gives us in life.. A construction worker is working on the 1st level of a building that is being constructed. However he is working in a dangerous manner that can cause harm to himself. His foreman, who is on the 3rd level, saw this and tried to get his attention. First, he threw down a fifty cent coin. The construction worker saw it. He didnt know where it came from but happily picked it up and placed it in his pocket. So the foreman tried again but with a dollar coin. And again, the construction worker didnt look up but pockets the coin. This went on for a few times. Each time, the construction just happily pocketing the coins. So at last, to get the workers attention, the foreman threw a rock.. and finally, the construction worker looked up. Moral of the story: Allah gives tests in life due to any 1 or a combination of the following reasons: (i) as punishment, (ii) as a way to elevate the true believers & (iii) as turning point. Sometimes we are misguided or on the wrong path, Allah gives us blessings in a way for us to be reminded of His grace and mercy. However, not everyone realises this and continues on the wrong path. It is then that Allah sends a harsher reminder or tests to make us look up and realise our mistakes.
