By international lawyer Barry Grossman I am still working on by Report Card assessing the performance of each countrys expressed about the Israeli assault on Gaza this hunting season. It is a complicated process in which I am using scores for 23 different criteria to evaluate the position of each nation. Not surprisingly, so far, Iran stands out head & shoulders above all the rest in its unwavering, bold, principled but responsible support for Palestine with a provisional score of 222, while the USA is in a league and at a depth of its own with a provisional score of minus 74! There are a number of countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Bolivia and others which, while falling somewhat short of the standard set by Iran, nevertheless stand out as committed friends off Palestine with provisional scores hovering around the 130 level. Russias disingenuous and, indeed, duplicitous position has earned it a disappointing provisional score while the pathetic positions taken by Egypt and the KSA which reflect both their slavish loyalty to the empire and their avaricious and un-Islamic hostility towards Iran, have earned each of them provisional scores which barely break zero! Needless to say, ISIS/ISIL and the so-called FSA or Syrian opposition have also earned the scores they deserve. It is quite clear that the majority of nations which have issued official statements relating to Gaza have followed the script prepared by Israel and the USA which,, where necessary, was no doubt pressed on them with the usual vigour and pressure exercised by the Empire. What is clear is that this prepared script conceded that some nations would feel the need to express some degree of condemnation for the Israel bombardment on Gaza, but urged that such statements not be made by any nations most senior political official and that, if possible, the language be somewhat more muted than that used to state support for Israels position. The imperative imposed on the worlds nations was that, at a minimum, the use of armed conflict by all sides be condemned and an expressed commitment to seeking a political solution through negotiation as the only way forward. The prepared script and related instructions also called on countries to expressly denounce Hamas and its rocket fire while recognizing that Israel has a right to defend itself. Apart from the value of such statements to the broader, decades long Zionist agenda, they are also a key element to promoting the myth that Israel’s unrestrained assault on Gaza was a retaliatory one. For the most part, the International community followed the script given to them. Of course, the usual suspects required little cajoling and had little if any condemnation for Israel. Others condemned Hamas, its rocket fire and armed resistance while also strongly condemning Israel’s response as “disproportionate.” In many instances, be it for genuine or merely for political reasons, nations denounced specific tactics used by Israel as being a violation of international law, though the overall emphasis of the international response on the need for a political solution also knobbles the build up of any significant support for a legal response at the ICC to Israel’s hostilities and related crimes. On the whole, the Atlantic World embraced the Empire’s position although a minority of nations did so while expressing some vigorous criticism of Israel. It is interesting to note that despite growing support for Russia among politically disaffected people in the west, the loose BRICS alliance and all of its members except Brazil, have for the most part taken the same position as the Empire. However, Russia continues to try and carve out for itself some kind of alternative leading role for itself as a so-called “peace maker.” The implications of this tend to confirm the views of those who see Russia’s position geopolitics as being largely indistinguishable from the US in that both are driven by pragmatism largely without concern for ethics while being largely focused on securing the best possible position at the NWO table for themselves. All I can say is shame to Russia! Variations on the standard Empire preferred position have been expressed by the USA, Russia, India, Japan, Canada, the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Ireland, Argentina, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Guatemala, Honduras, Uruguay, Latvia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Serbia, Bahrain, Iceland and Sri Lanka. Many other countries essentially reflect the same position while punctiliously maintain the false appearance of complete neutrality. Needless to say, the European Union, the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General all embrace the scripted position. Among the nations comprising North Africa and the Middles East, there is a clear secondary political lobbying effort underway which, though it reflects political rivalries which are quite distinct from those which in form the Atlantic World’s position, in fact, “fits hand in hand” with the Empire’s agenda and carefully scripted position. That process reflects the decade’s long effort by the KSA to isolate Iran and prevent it from exercising what, on any reasonable view, is its natural leadership role in the region. This effort is being quietly coordinated by the KSA through diplomatic channels by using the continuing tactic of setting up Egypt’s tyrant el Sisi as the champion of a peaceful solution in Palestine, while advancing a secondary and, to the KSA, more important agenda of weakening Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and, more generally, the armed resistance. Naturally, the aims, tactics and strategy of this agenda is being strongly supported both by the Empire and by Russia, while those in Tel Aviv no doubt can hardly believe their good fortune. Those nations reflecting or adhering in various degrees to the KSA position include, the Arab League, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kenya and Gambia. Meanwhile, Iran has again emerged as the most consistent, principled and outspoken supporter of Palestine and critic of Israel. In this regard, the Non-Aligned Movement loose affiliation of nations has also distinguished itself by for the most part adopting positions which, though they may fall short of the leading position taken by Iran, certainly stand head & shoulders above the positions expressed by both Atlantic World nations and countries which are fully under the sway of the KSA, to say nothing of the various other nations which, though not in any real sense part of either bloc, nevertheless continue without logic or principle to express unqualified support for the Zionist agenda. While the Non-Aligned Movement still does not exercise any significant political clout within the larger Empire dominated international community, it certainly appears to be emerging as a loose coalition of like minded nations which exert as much, if not more, influence than the KSA led alliance which continues to hold sway mostly because of its slavish service to the Empire. Those nations which are either party to the Non-Aligned Movement’s position or which otherwise have made independent statements that appear to be largely consistent with it, include: Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, Syria, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Morocco, Venezuela, Yemen, Cuba, Bolivia, Bolivia, Djibouti, Ecuador, Guyana, Mauritania, the Maldives, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, Oman, the Sahrawi Republic, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan and Tanzania. Qatar and North Korea, though very critical of Israel in their statements on Gaza, not surprisingly seem to be going it alone. The governments of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have been inappropriately quiet or at least circumspect regarding the Israeli assault on Gaza. Of course the great tragedy in all of this lies first, in the mischief making by the KSA and Egypt and their insistence to place their rivalry with Iran and their loyalty to the Empire, over the interests of Islamic unity and Palestine and, second, in the disingenuous and self-interested position adopted by Russia and most other BRICS nations. As for the overwhelming willingness of most nations comprising the international community to fully submit to the Empire’s position and to advance the Zionist agenda, that is an entirely different subject which can hardly be done justice to in this brief note.
