By now you will be aware of the very sad news that John Bint passed away at 04.45 hrs today. I went to see him on Thursday and he asked that I get a specific flag for him.; the flag of his first posting in Duss, marked with ’ 8 COMMAND POSTAL AND COURIER COMMUNICATIONS DEPOT. ROYAL ENGINEERS’ Typical John, nothings ever simple! I have checked and it seems it no longer exists. I have some more checking to do tomorrow but I suspect I will probably need to have one made. I’m happy to pay for this myself but figured you all may want to contribute a little bit as a way of gesture. I have no idea of the cost but I’m happy to make up any deficit or donate any surplus to St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton who took great care of John. If you wish to donate to John’s flag (which I would like to allow his family to keep) and for the surplus to be donated to St Lukes Hospice then please make a bank transfer to: Mr Paul McNulty Sort Code is 110306 Account number is 00714562 and make sure you put ‘For John’ or similar in the reference or I may not be able to identify it and will end up on a Caribbean cruise without knowing how! :) For the old farts that are not computer savvy but want to donate then perhaps you can contact me and we can work out an alternative way. Time is against me as I have no idea of the funeral date but if you want something added to the flag that you think John would like (I was thinking ‘Farewell Alpha Two Zero’ as that was his call sign as MGS) then you need to let me know ASAP. Thanks, on behalf of John and St Lukes. RIP John
