CALBAYOG CITY GOVERNMENT TO LAUNCH “RPA TO HEALTH” ON TUESDAY (AIMEE A. CATALAN) Calbayog City, Samar, March 23, 2014 - The Local Government of Calbayog through the City Health Office has now revised the conduct of its health activities into a “holistic” approach. This means, they are now into people’s access to health through bringing ALL the services and health information to the barangay level far distinct from conducting medical missions that is simply check-up and “curative” in approach. This RPA to Health is really to “prevent” the occurrence of diseases which begins from Health Education Session and Counseling, Vaccination, Prenatal and Postnatal Check-up, Medical Consultation, Dental Consultation, Diagnostic Examination, Sanitation Inspection, up to Coordination with the Barangay Council. This program is called REVITALIZED PROGRAM for ACCESS or RPA to Health (acronym taken from the initials of Mayor Ronaldo P. Aquino). In the recently conducted “Kapihan sa Handumanan”, City Health Officer Dr. Sylvia de Guzman discussed the framework of the said program. She said that with this RPA to Health, those barangays they will visit are definitely the barangays without a main health center neither a health station, but only a satellite barangay of a health station within each of the city’s five districts, namely, Calbayog 1, 2, 3, Oquendo and Tinambacan. Their Field Health Support Services Staff will assist them in the conduct of the activity. Likewise, Dr. de Guzman mentioned the counterpart of the barangay council or the community health team headed by the barangay chairman. Their role, according to de Guzman, is to mobilize their people towards them as they, the health professionals, also bring the services closer to the people. Meanwhile, one ultimate goal de Guzman had emphasized in her discussion about this RPA to health is to make their health workers realize the importance of catching the people at the barangay level. This, she added, will eventually teach the people to have the so-called “health-seeking behavior” and will enliven the barangay. This RPA to Health will be launched on Tuesday, March 25 in Brgy. Balud, and from there, a two-month long schedule of visitations are expected covering the satellite barangays. Dr. de Guzman further assured ample stocks of medicines, available diagnostic tests, anesthesia, dermatologics and others, for this program. ##END##
