WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERS 2015 Patrimonito takes a stand in a changing global environment CALL FOR PROJECTS Dear friends and colleagues, We have the pleasure to launch the World Heritage Volunteers 2015 (WHV 2015) campaign and welcome the participation of all interested organisations. In the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, the World Heritage Volunteers Initiative is led by the World Heritage Centre (WHC) in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS), Open Houses (European Heritage Volunteers as a branch of Open Houses) in charge of the European coordination and Better World in charge of Asian coordination. Considering that 2015 is the year of celebration of the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO, and the continuing Decade on Biodiversity (2011-2020), the WHV 2015 campaign shall aim to: a) Raise awareness of local and international volunteers as well as the local communities about issues related to cultural or natural World Heritage, sustainable development and biodiversity; and put accent on activities in natural World Heritage sites; b) Integrate hands-on skills training activities on basic preventive conservation and preservation techniques in WHV 2015 projects; c) Link-up with local youth organisations, the local communities, the site management, national and local authorities and establish cooperative relations and partnership to improve project towards sustainable results; d) Share best practices for the development of non-formal education tools by documenting new approaches to promote World Heritage. APPLICATIONS In order to get involved in or renew your commitment to the protection and preservation of World Heritage through voluntary action and non formal education, please fill in the online application: goo.gl/9xFw5V If you are an non-governmental organisation please submit your application at the latest by 9 JANUARY 2015 at MIDNIGHT If you are a public authority please submit your application at the latest by 13 February 2015 at MIDNIGHT. PROJECT SELECTION CRITERIA For selection, proposed projects must fulfil the set of criteria below. 1) The project is organized in immediate connection to a site inscribed on the World Heritage List or a proposed site on the country’s Tentative List [Reference: whc.unesco.org/en/list ; whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists]; 2) The project should: a. be developed in consultation with site managers and local authorities in planning details of the activities; b. include practical hands-on skills training activities as well as reflection on issues related to World Heritage; c. involve the community in order to deepen their knowledge around issues related to World Heritage and the World Heritage Volunteers Campaign; 3) The project can be linked to the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO or to the Decade of Biodiversity; 4) Organizers engage themselves to implement their project as per approved proposals and to submit a full activity report (including images, videos and other results) demonstrating the concrete engagement of young volunteers in the field of World Heritage. UNESCO shall use these for promotional purposes, among others publication in UNESCOs website, the World Heritage Review, for information to the different States Parties and concerned governmental agencies. NOTE: ■ Each organisation is eligible to apply for a maximum of 4 projects to be carried out in different sites or carrying different themes. ■ The evaluation report of previous WHV projects done by the same organisation has to be submitted in order for the new proposals to be considered. CONFIRMATION OF WHV 2015 PROJECTS Following the selection of the projects, an official selection letter will be sent to the World Heritage site managers in charge of the sites where the selected projects will take place, UNESCO Field Offices and the relevant National Commissions and Permanent Delegations to UNESCO. The organisations will receive a list of online educational materials as resource to support their awareness-raising activities.
