CALLING ALL NEW YORK STATE PUBLIC TEACHERS! This FB page is for those of you who have experienced errors in licensure from the New York State Department of Education and as a result have lost your job, like me. Two years ago, the supervisor of the NYS Ed. License Evaluation team wrote to me in response to which courses I needed in order to transition from a provisional to a permanent license after completing a 4 summer graduate program at Middlebury College. He replied in detail what was necessary, 2 courses in adolescent pedogogy. I followed his instructions and after submitting the documentation to Albany, he wrote back to me that one of the courses was wrong, even though I did exactly what he had instructed. I was fired from my job! Another NYS license evaluator called me before I began this position and told me she would take care of the licensing issues. She never did and had quit her job. The third NYS license evaluator wrote to me that I needed to show proof of previous teaching experience. My previous teaching experience had been ten years in the New York public school system. Why do they not know that they were my previous employer? In addition I had sent them the documentation 4 years prior, yet they did not have it all of a sudden. I drove 200 miles to Albany and hand delivered it. The clerk tried to take my original. When I asked him to make a copy, he replied that he did not know where the copier was. For two years I have asked my NY State Senator, Legislator, Governor Cuomo, his mother(an advocate of teachers), Commissioner King, President Obama, Secretary Duncan, AFT president Randi Weingarten, NYSUT president Dick Ianuzzi to help. I have been stonewalled! Have you too? Who can afford to take another course with the cost of higher education these days? I invested all of my savings in my teaching licenses. My starting teacher salary was $28 K, finishing $55 K. A teaching license costs approximately $50,000 to $250,000. Who can afford a clerical error? I have been working on my licensure for 17 YEARS! After ten years of teaching SUCCESSFULLY, why do I have to take anymore courses on how to teach? I am already a MASTER TEACHER! Write to your NYS Senators, Assemblymen, and Governor Cuomo (who has refused an appt. with me twice!!!) Tell your stories on YouTube. We must unite to change the deplorable condition of the NYS Department of Education!
