CARRICKCRUPPEN ST PATRICKS GAC CLUB NOTES: If ever there was a Super Sunday of football then this was it, Sunday 25th August 2013 will go down in the annals of club history as the Senior Ladies brought the Marie Hoy Cup back to Lowes Lane and the Under 14 girls also winning the Division Two championship on the same day! CARRICKCRUPPEN 2-11 CLANN EIREANN 1-8 In the Athletic Grounds the Senior Ladies contested the Senior Championship final against old rivals Clann Eireann. Cruppen settled the better and held lots of possession around the midfield dominated by Caroline O’Hanlon and Caitlin Malone. Rebecca O’Reilly was found free and slotted the ball over the bar to open Carrickcruppen’s account, both sides swapped scores when corner-back Amy Hughes was yellow carded for an off the ball offence, Cruppen upped their tempo from this moment and it often looked as though they had the extra player, points from Megan Cinnamond and Caroline O’Hanlon edged Cruppen in front before the impressive Lennon rifled the ball to the Clann Eireann net for the first goal of the game. Clann Eireann responded with a point but Natasha Lennon again increased Cruppen’s lead at the sound of the half time whistle on a scoreline of Carrickcruppen 1-5 Clann Eireann 0-4. Carrickcruppen got off to a flyer at the start of the second half with points from Natasha Lennon, Megan Cinnamond and Aoife McCullough extended the lead 8 points, lack of discipline in the Clann Eireann team cost them dearly resulting in two of their players being sin-binned for 10 minute period each. They however responded well to this and reduced the deficit to 6 points. Caroline O’Hanlon fired over another point for Cruppen after a great individual solo run thru the middle of the field to send the Cruppen faithful into rapturous applause. Clann Eireann had other ideas scoring 1-2 and bringing themselves right back into the game with the goal coming from the penalty leaving just two points between the teams. Natasha Lennon pointed to put 3 in it when Caoimhe Murray was found free on the edge of the square and she blasted the ball to the net effectively ending the game as a contest, a point at the last from Caitlin Malone sealed a fantastic victory for Carrickcruppen and the supporters ecstatic. Carrickcruppen’s Marian McGuinness was the deservant winner of Player of the Match. Team: Niamh Finnegan, Aileen Doran, Rebecca O’Reilly, Amy Hughes, Kerry Garvey, Marian McGuinness, Natasha Lennon, Caitlin Malone, Caroline O’Hanlon, Megan Cinnamond, Dearbhla Wright, Sinead Finnegan, Aoife McCullough, Caoimhe Murray, Rhia McCullough. Subs used: Anna Carr for Dearbhla Wright and Shauna O’Grady for Aoife McCullough This victory is just rewards for the hard work and effort that they put in over the course of the season and congratulations go to the management team of Lorraine McCaffrey, Fionnuala McAtamney and Pat McGuinness and To Cathal Evans who helped trained the team during the year. Hopefully now they can move forward and get a good run in the Ulster Championship where they have a home fixture against the Fermanagh Champions in 6 weeks time.
