CDOT On-line Bike/Byways Map Available for Local Uploads CDOTs - TopicsExpress

CDOT On-line Bike/Byways Map Available for Local Uploads CDOTs Statewide Bicycle and Scenic Byways Map has just completed another upgrade -- this time making provisions for local jurisdictions to add their own information. The original map was designed to help bicyclists review and select routes throughout the state. Roadways are identified with shoulder width and traffic volume, a basic for most bicyclists. In addition, the Colorado map includes search capabilities so users can look for hotels, bike shops, restaurants, or other areas of interest. The map also allows for direction routing and for being able to look at street view. The Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways are also highlighted as theyre frequently favorite routes for bicyclists. The new upgrade allows local jurisdictions to layer their information onto the map. A local agency just needs to go to the site and request to be a trail editor. Once approved, they can upload their GIS files showing their local trails, routes, bike lanes, etc. Trail editors must be associated with a government agency in order to be approved. According to Betsy Jacobsen, CDOTs Bicycle/Pedestrian and Byways Manager, this upgrade is going to add another complete dimension to the map. Users will be able to zoom in and find much more detailed information than was originally available. It will also allow local jursidictions to update their information as they make physcial changes to existing facilities.
