CELEBRATING A NEW YEAR??? - We as Muslims need to ask our selves two very fundamental questions, what is it we are celebrating? And should we be involved in this celebration at all? The answer to the first question is that this celebration is one that belongs to the Pagans and Christians and is supposed to celebrate the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of Christianity. The answer to the second question is a very certain NO. - As Muslims we should be aware that by celebrating these events we are firstly following the traditions of the pagans and Christians and if we follow the tradition of new year celebrations we may as well celebrate Easter, Christmas and any other events that are not authentically Muslim. And secondly, we are also, if celebrating these events are doing Haram. - The Islamic New Year was not celebrated by our beloved Messenger Muhammad (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) so thus we should not celebrate our new year and also we should not celebrate ant other new year from any other calendars. - As for us Muslims, we have our own calendar, this calendar began when the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayh wa ssalaam) made the Hijrah (migration) to Medina. - Our calendar as prescribed by the Prophet (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) is what we Muslims must follow, any events that are not part of the Muslim calendar must not be followed as they were not a part of Islam at the time of the Prophet (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) and must not be part of our Islam today. Sacred days and months are practised today according to this same calendar that existed some 1400 years ago. - There is no evidence that suggests that the prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam), his companions or the 3 rightly guided generations (peace and blessings be upon them all) or any scholar from the past or present has involved himself or herself in any form of new year celebration. - This is confirmed by the Hadith (saying) of the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) - Allahs prophet pbuh said Medina is a sacred territory so he who made and innovation in it, or gave protection to an innovator (Bidah), there is upon him the curse of Allah (swt), of the Angels and of all the people. There would not be accepted on the Day of Judgement either obligatory acts (such as Salah, Fasting and other Fardh acts) or Nafil acts from him. Abu Hurayrah, Muslim 3166. Every Bidah leads to the Fire. - Doing haram actions are not to be taken lightly. Our prophet also said Whoever imitates a group of people will be amongst them And in another Hadith (saying) the prophet (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) said a man came to the Allahs Apostle (Sallallahu alayh wa sallam) and said Oh Allahs Apostle! What do you say about a man who loves some people but cannot catch up with good deeds? the prophet of Allah said, Everyone will be with those whom he loves. Abdullah Ibn Masood. Bukhari vol.8, 190. #So brothers and sisters be aware of the importance of living by the Islamic calendar, instead of celebrating this unauthentic event that clearly is not of the Muslims, pray to Allah (swt) and seek his forgiveness and mercy, repent and ask him to make what time we all have left positive and let us live as good Muslims gaining success in this life and the next. •Pray that we may all live according to the Sunnah (practices) of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) so that Allah (swt) will look on us favourably. Natural disasters, wars, mass killings, and other tragedies have befallen us, •pray to Allah (swt) that the time to come be better then that has passed, and also pray for protection from Haram
