CHALLENGES & THRILLS OF ARMY LIFE During college life, I thought, - TopicsExpress

CHALLENGES & THRILLS OF ARMY LIFE During college life, I thought, like many others, that in order to get rid of studies, one should join the Army. It was a fallacy which I did not bother to re-check from my knowledgeable elders, who could have given me sage advice. After joining PMA and thereafter throughout my career, I learnt very quickly that there is no escape from studies and there are no shortcuts on the road to success. In the Army, even if you want to dodge it out, you are forced at different tiers to do paper work and submit papers, do courses, etc. In the units, the commanding officer and other seniors make sure that the subalterns are groomed properly through the writing of analytic papers, essays, presentations, training plans and what not. Even debating competitions are arranged to improve your speaking power as well as confidence. The learning process continues till the day you finally retire. A few days ago while going through some old personal files, I found two pages typed on thin rice paper containing an article I had written almost four decades ago. It was probably written for submission to higher HQs as per the policy in vogue at that time. I dont think it ever traveled up very much or got published in any magazine. Today, I think Army life is much more tough and challenging than the days once this paper was written. I leave it upon you to make your own judgment. I am attaching the original scanned papers. I hope they would be readable. Waqar Ahmad Kingravi 7 Sep 2014
