CHAMA ENTERS INTO CONSENT, HIGH COURT DECLARES LUNGU DULY ELECTED - TopicsExpress

CHAMA ENTERS INTO CONSENT, HIGH COURT DECLARES LUNGU DULY ELECTED PF PRESIDENT While the nation was poised to hear about the injuncted Patriotic Front (PF) elections on Friday 5th December 2014, the event has been superseded by another event - the issuing of a Consent Order by the Lusaka High Court declaring Edgar Chagwa Lungu as duly elected by the Extra-ordinary General Conference which was held in Kabwe over the weekend. The Consent Order which was signed after Secretary General of the PF Davis Chama had his lawyers fashion a consent. Upon hearing the matter Judge Mugeni Mulenga ruled that Lungu was duly elected as PF President. The court also prohibited any defendants whether by themselves or their agents, candidates, superiors, or subordinates to be restrained in perpetuity from purporting to have been elected as Party President, other than Edgar Chagwa Lungu. What is unclear is the status of the initial parties to the court action and how the change of office holders in the interim has impacted in any defence that would have been mounted.
