CHARTERS TOWERS region Governess/Teacher on cattle property North Queensland Basalt QLD 4820 ========================================================= Date Listed: 04/11/2014 Job Type: Contract We are looking for a governess to teach our 3 children in 2015. We have a family owned, 52,000 acre cattle property located approximately 360km south west of Townsville, in North Queensland. The property has been in our family for a couple of generations and we love the fact that our children are able to enjoy a bush childhood. They have plenty of pets and are often involved in mustering and feeding cattle. We are surrounded by beautiful natural landscape and geographical formations such as the Great Basalt Wall and Daintree’s Lookout (an extinct volcano). There are also a number of springs and water holes on our property which are nice to swim and paddle in after the wet season. Our closest town, Charters Towers, is about 2 hours away. There is a lovely community in the surrounding area, and we often attend events such as local horse races and tennis or cricket days with other families. We encourage our Governess to join in with the family and enjoy these activities as well. There are also plenty of opportunities to become involved in whatever is happening on the property at the time, such as mustering, feeding the animals, and loading cattle trucks. The position involves home tutoring our children through Distance Education. We have two girls in year 2 and year 4 next year, and a 3 year old boy who will be starting a separate kindy program. He may attend the classroom a couple of times a week as needed. The role generally involves: • Keeping the classroom clean, tidy and organised; • Reviewing lesson plans, teaching material and collating assessment material for return (the basic lesson material is provided, however we often need to supplement this); • Planning and teaching supplement or substitute material as needed (such as alternate grammar /spelling/ phonics material) • Planning extra-curricular activities (such as craft or ball sports); • Supervising online interactive classes; • Supervising smoko and lunch breaks; The children are bright and enjoy engaging with other people. They take a great interest in their Governess, so we are really looking for someone who can be a strong positive role model for them. Since we have limited access to extra-curricular activities, we would welcome any interests or hobbies that that our Governess is able to share. The girls especially enjoy arts and craft, drama, music, story-telling and dancing. Living with us on the property, we have one full time manager and his partner, plus occasional contractors, and/or backpackers who assist us from time to time. We like to maintain a good, friendly, hard-working, team environment, and we really value the role of our Governess. There is separate accommodation, with kitchen and living area provided. The school room is in close proximity, is well resourced and equipped with phone, internet and air--conditioning. For more information or to apply for the position, please contact Lynda (phone is fine). Please note that preference will be given to applicants with teaching qualifications. 0747704470 Lynda
