CHIESA CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT NITRO POLE, NEKEEL POCKETS $800 FOR MILLER MOTORSPORTS June 25th NWRR-The Northwest Gold Cup saw yet another different winner in the NITRO RADISH WORLD FORMULA PRO 400 Series as Dustin Chiesa repeated his day one actions taking the pole and the final and cashing in on the $400 dollar payday. Brother Craig Chiesa made it family affair front row qualifying second quick. A mere 0.769 was all that separated top qualifier Chiesa tenth quick qualifier Steve Perdue. David Schorn picked up where he left off on Saturday with a strong third quick effort and Saturdays winner Nitro Max Mulkey was fourth. The Spokane speedster, Colton Schultz was fifth. Mulkey would take the pre final with Schorn, Schultz, and the Chiesa brothers rounding out the top five. In final, it was Chiesa from the get go leading it bell to bell, with Schorn second until a late race pass by Mulkey for the second spot moved Schorn to third, Craig Chiesa fourth, and Colton Schultz fifth. Mulkey should retain the points lead, as second place Myles Pederson finished behind Schultz in sixth. Brett Lucas, Greg Normandin, Bryan Green and Ricky Worley completed the top ten. Stepanova Nekeel made it a clean sweep as he took the SmaK Plastics ProRo Rotax Senior which has also paid $400 to win all season long. Nekeel bested a solid field of Senior competitors to take the pole with a 39.212 57.780 mph lap. Revolution Racing owner and defending Rotax Senior champion Joey Show me the Money McGuire joined Nekeel on the outside making it a Birel front row. Current point leader Chris Mann was third quick and Myles Pederson and Michael Gutenberger rounded out the top five qualifying spots. In the final it was all Nekeel as he went to bell to bell and Gutenberger making a late race slide job on then second place Mann to take over second...Mann was third, McGuire fourth, and Myles Pederson fifth, Craig Collins who along with McGuire, had issues in the pre final trying to avoid a McGuire and Justin Smalley altercation, had to replace a bent axle & was sixth with Smalley seventh. Chris Mann was the point leader coming into this weekends fourth round and should be leader upon leaving with his solid and consistent weekend. Nekeel driving the Miller Motorsports/Revolution Racing Birel for the injured Front Row Joey Miller, netted $800 SmaKs for the weekend. Kyle Wick once again took the pole, pre final, and final on his way to a sweep of Junior Rotax...Spencer Kunz who has been one of the hottest Juniors going as of late was 0.315 off of Wicks 39.353 quick time. Current point leader Adam Smalley was third quick, Calen Richmond fourth, and Niki Johnston fifth. Smalley would follow Wick across the stripe second Kunz was third, fourth was Johnston and fifth was Richmond who did not even get to make a lap after his right rear tire came off during the warm up laps. Conner Wick took the win in Rotax Mini Max. With his runner up finish, Adam Smalley has for the most part secured the Junior Rotax crown with well over a 400 point lead over the runner up spot, & really doesnt even have to go to McMinnville in order to win the championship...my guess is that you will see Adam Smalley at McMinnville game face on an ready to race anybody that may come to run, thats just the kind of kid Smalley is. This will be only one of many championships I believe for Smalley if he chooses to stay with it..Adam Smalley will be a name you will be hearing a lot of along with his teammate Spencer Kunz...and you heard it here first. Jerry Pitts once again took Tag Masters qualifying in the top spot, winning the pre final and the final. Jeff Slough who showed up ready to go on day two qualified third behind second quick Gary Roehl (Pronounced Rail), former stock car guru Rene Bine was fourth. Midnight Motorsports driver Ricky Worley took the PRD pole and the win. Slough gave Pitts all he could handle early one, but Pitts a veteran of many a war, did what he does best run consistently fast laps, hits his marks and just grinds down his competitors. Jerry Pitts makes very few mistakes that coupled with his outstanding driving ability make him always tough to beat. Gary Roehl continues his strong improvement taking the second spot with Slough and Bine third and fourth. Junior 1 was won for a second time by speedster Jacob Smith who bested another promising young driver Racin Mason Smark from McMinnville, OR. Smark who at this time last year was running a kid kart, made the leap to Jr. 1 which a quite the step from kid karts at the start of this season is just continues to improve with each and every event. Smith led bell to bell all day to take the win...with Smark in his first ever outing away from his home track McMinnville Raceway Park taking the runner up spot. William Ginn from Idaho took home the win in Junior 1 LO206 and Hunter Hesseltine to home the win in Rotax Micro Max. In Junior 2 Animal it was Dylan McKay picking up where he left off on Saturday taking the win and capturing the Junior 2 Gold Cup title. Lucas Story did a heck of a job all weekend followed McKay across the stripe in the runner up spot. McKay has improved tremendously from where he was a year ago, and is a driver that you can no longer take lightly and as he continues to improve is to going to be without question one of the Junior 2s to beat next season. In Junior 2 LO206 it was once again Jacob Gulick on board his CMC/Gullick Trucking Swiss Hutless taking the win and played cat and mouse with Mason Buck and Monroe Jordan. Jordan had issues in his pre final bending his frame, the Jordan team got the car as straight as they could and made it back for the final finishing third behind Gullick and Buck. Gullick swept the weekend as he also took the pole with a 45.146 effort 0.107 seconds ahead of first year man Monroe Jordan. You also heard this here first...If he continues to race, Monroe Jordan is a name that you will be hearing a lot of. He has great on track presence and savvy, and just has really caught on to everything really quickly...He is going to be a good one, trust me. Senior LO206 went to A.J. Fugitt who pretty much had his way with things all weekend providing another sweep over runner up Kevin Janders, and once again doing a super job, female phenom Jenna Johnson was third, Jerrett Congie fourth, and Jeff Janders fifth. Brian Frank was sixth. Scott Little finally got the speed, set up, and luck all working together to get the win in Super-stock CR 125. Brian Frank grabbed the pole by mere 0.045 seconds with his 39.533 effort. Little was second quick putting down a 39.578 effort. Saturdays quick qualifier Travis Henson was third quick with .649, Schultz was fourth quick with a .975 and OBrien fifth with his 40. 405 effort. Midnight Motorsports Chris Worley took top qualifying honors in ICC Shifter with his 39.754 effort and Racin Jason Hall owner of Xccel Racing and importer of the SGM/Veloux chassis was second quick with a 39.862. Hall has really been making a name for the Veloux chassis which is proving to be a pretty competitive shifter chassis here in the northwest, its going to be interesting to see how they fair nationally going up against the best of the best. Frank took the pre final with Henson P2 and Little P3...but in the final it was Little taking what was his from Frank in the early going and not looking back the rest of the way to take the win 2.025 seconds ahead of runner up Henson, Colton Schultz was third, Frank fourth, and OBrien fifth. Worley out-dueled Hall for the win in ICC. Next stop for the series is the last weekend in August as the NWGC series heads down south to McMinnville, OR and the Mac track McMinnville Raceway Park. Hosted by the Portland Karting Association, it should be a great weekend of racing with the addition of the new asphalt smoothing the rough spots and the addition of the transition turns just before chicane getting on to the main straight.
