CHOOSING THE NEXT LEADERS: A THOUGHT FOR NIGERIA, MY COUNTRY. As Nigeria, my country, is about choosing its next leaders , I have decided to share some of my thoughts with us on this platform on a weekly basis. Today, we are quick to bring to the fore our differences in everything we do, especially in our electioneering processes. But we were first humans and then Nigerians, until race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us, and wealth classified us. We must deemphasize our compartmentalisation of Northerners and Southerners, Muslims and Christians, Rich and Poor, Ruling Party and Opposition, indigenes and non-indigenes, the rulers and the ruled. We must develop our common grounds. We are equal in mortality and equal in citizenship. That should be the premise on which every other platform is built. We have separated ourselves from the Nation for too long. The country is bigger than the bits that make it. Let us all develop a vision so clear and profound that we all will be committed to. No country is built on things you can touch. We must commit to a value of peace and national cohesion as we seek to elect the next set of leaders. Dayo Awude 08/01/15.
