CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY TWICE THIS WEEK!! You cant imagine how happy I was to see this old friend of mine ( no not Gina Osceola she is my young friend ) BUT my old HAMER Califonian guitar. This was one of the first Hamer Californians made and it belonged to one of the original owners of the Hamer company named Jol Dantzig. Jol was very important in the development of my career btw since he gave me my first guitar endorsement in 1987 giving me a guitar that no one wanted...a red Hamer Tele....that guitar is still one of my best sounding guitars and can be heard all over the first Colorcode record. That guitar is also the guitar I use to this day spec wise when designing new guitars ( yes even the Idol Maker has a bit of that Hamer Tele research in it). Jol also turned me onto vintage Marshalls insisting that I by ( at a super cheap price) two of his many he had in his closet...A 68 Mini Plexi 50 and a 69 Superlead ( I have used both on countless recordings since I bought them in 1988). This Yellow Hamer Californian has a story too....it was the guitar I was playing in my first ever guitar ad in a national magazine ( a cool photo taken at Madison Square Garden). It was the guitar I played on the 1988 MTV Awards AND its the guitar on the cover of my first album Colorcode...In my book When We Were The Boys I tell a story about how I talked Hamer ownerJol Dantzig into giving me this guitar ( it was one of his private ones he made for himself). This guitar was on the wall of the Hard Rock Cafe in La Jolla Califonia ( it was always a dream to have a guitar on the wall of my local Hardrock cafe where I grew up and this guitar was the first of about 8 of my guitars that are or have been on Hardrock Cafe walls) BUT this is special cuz the old Yellow Hamer is getting a second life! The La Jolla Hardrock closed and my guitar went into storage but thanks to my friends at the Hardrock Casino in Hollywood Florida it lives again!! Many many thanks to my Seminole Indian friends and Councilman Christopher Osceola for finding my old guitar and finding a new home for it...This was a special guitar in mylife indeed and now its in a special place with special friends!
