CHUPI, PURBASTHALI weekenderberano Purbasthali is a quiet - TopicsExpress

CHUPI, PURBASTHALI weekenderberano Purbasthali is a quiet little railway station on the Nabadwip-Katwa route. From Calcutta by train it should not take more than 3/4 hours. There is nothing remarkable about the sprawling village except that it is very neat and clean and unlike most other small semi-urban centres in South Bengal there is no dirt and squalor or shanty little shops by the road side. Instead there are numerous colourful nurseries selling a whole lot of flower plants spread on either side of the road that leads to the river from the station. But being clean, quiet and colourful is not Purbasthalis claim to fame. It is famous among bird lovers in eastern India for its crystal clear oxbow lake by the side of the quietly flowing Ganga. Come winter and the lake, as also the adjacent river, plays host to a huge number of migratory birds. Bird lovers, watchers and photographers, mostly from Calcutta, flock to the lake with their bins and cameras and scopes in winter. But there is no reason why a normal tourist should also not enjoy the beauty of this unique lake on a cool and sunny winter day. You dont have to be an ornithologist to visit and enjoy Purbasthali or Chupi Char as it is locally known.
