CINEMA IN THE SAND-----THE END OF AN ERA---(well, at least six years of one) The Shipwrecks Film Society is announcing that this will be our final final season of CINEMA IN THE SAND. (really, no kidding) The GOOD NEWS is that we still have TEN (count’em ten) great films still left in our current season and we will be screening all of them at SHIPWRECKS BEACH. We are hoping to still show ALL the films nominated for the Academy Award for best picture…and to show them BEFORE the Academy Awards presentation on February 22nd (SEE you at ZAC’s for THAT)….. our last film before we close our doors FOREVER (as if we had any doors) will be on March 25th, a Wednesday……..now then.... many folks will wonder why we are quitting a fairly successful run… but we always knew that due to our isolated demographic we could never compete if another cinema opened near us. About 80 percent of our membership lives in Zacatitos and with the recent decision by Paul Dandurand at the Compound to start showing films, ….well we immediately knew we were doomed…..yeah it is a little bittersweet but what part of life isn’t? And yes, it feels a lot like a hostile takeover…but again that is life in capitalism….and, like it or not, we are capitalists. We wish Paul and all our Zacatitos friends the best of luck . SEE YOU AT THE MOVIES (for at least ten more times….)
