CIPS: HOW TO SPOT UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR It may sound strange, but try taking a look at your suppliers staff absence rates. It’s not necessarily a common measure for supplier performance, but high levels of employee absence and poor retention rates could be a red flag for unethical or illegal practices, suggesting poor working conditions, over-worked teams or lack of health and safety measures. In addition, a lack of investment in training and development and low pay is often linked to poor retention rates and therefore a drop in experience in and knowledge of the goods and services produced. All of this could result in a fall in productivity, increased lead times and low quality control.
