January 23, 2015 NEWSLETTER NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS LANE CLOSURES Oak Valley Parkway On Monday, February 2nd, 2015, the Southern California Gas Company will resume hydro-testing on approximately .75 miles of gas line located on Oak Valley Parkway. Partial lane closures will be in place in two separate locations: • Eastbound lanes of Oak Valley Parkway between Cherry Avenue and the entrance to the Community Recreation Center (CRC), located at 1310 Oak Valley Parkway. • Westbound lanes of Oak Valley Parkway between Beaumont Avenue and Noble Creek Park, located at 390 Oak Valley Parkway. Vehicle traffic will be diverted for both closures. Water storage tanks will be staged at the western closure of Oak Valley Parkway. Hyrdo-testing activity will take place south of the Community Recreation Center. Both entrances to the CRC will remain open during construction and testing. Gas service will not be affected during construction and testing. Construction noise will be confined to 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All work is expected to be completed by Friday, July 31, 2015. For more information on the project, please contact the Building and Safety Department at 951-769-8520. Are you looking for more time to share your ideas or want to be part of a round table discussion? Stop by a Beaumont Cares Meeting the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. These are open topic meetings where you can interact with various staff members and elected officials in a relaxed environment. See some suspicious activity? Say something to your Neighborhood Watch! Get to know your neighbors and start a Neighborhood Watch program. MAYORAL APPOINTMENTS Mayor, Mayor Pro-Tem, and Committee Assignments On Tuesday, January 20th, the City Council voted to appoint Brenda Knight to a second term as Mayor and new council member Mike Lara as Mayor Pro-Tem. The Council also made selections to the various local boards and committees. The Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are nominated amongst the council and serve in the positions for one year but no more than two consecutive years. UPCOMING EVENTS FREE VETERANS EXPO SHUTTLE Saturday, January 31st, 2015 Civic Center - 550 E. 6th Street The City of Beaumont is pleased to announce that Beaumont Pass Transit will be offering a FREE shuttle for Veterans and their family traveling to the Veterans Expo. The shuttle will operate approximately every 15 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from the Walmart bus stop, located at 1540 E. 2nd Street Marketplace. This is a large event, and everyone is encouraged to use Beaumont Pass Transit. The event will focus on strategies for success in todays economy. COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING (CERT) March 5th, 7th, and 8th Beaumont Civic Center - 550 E. 6th Street Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire, medical and law enforcement services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs. The Basic CERT Training Program includes 7 basic modules and consists of 20 hours of classroom and hands-on training over a three day period.
