CLANNISH POLITICS IN EBIRALAND This is basically the more reason why we will continue to be slaves in Kogi State. Learned and goal oriented people in Ebiraland that merit some key positions that have a positive impact in the lives of Anebira are ignored due to clannish sentiments and half-illiterate, disoriented and visionless people are given this position just because of clan. All these also boil down to the fact that our civil service is bewildered by people that are long due for retirement. They should give room for youths to bring in their new innovations and latest technology to the development of the service and Ebiraland. But alas, they will want to die in office or retire at the age where even their retirement benefits become useless to them. Let me quote the words of General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR “Democracy can best flourish when a certain level of educational attainment or literacy exists in the society.” So my people why not allow the vibrant, goal-oriented, purposeful and educated youths with vision, regardless of their clan hold key positions that can better the lives of our citizens. Ebiraland lack security, are short of food, water, live in fairly sanitized shelters with hardly any new technological medi-care to speak of. Go to our Okene General Hospital and see the deplorable conditions of the facilities there. Only recently, thanks to some Ebira Youth on-line forum that brought in some donations and on-the-site man labour themselves to effect some changes to these deplorable conditions. Our Primary school pupils sat on bare floor to acquire their education. The women and children trek long distance into the nearby forest to get drinking water. Small scale farmers, foresters, micro businesses such as market women, washer-men, vulcanizers, tailors, barbers, street corner shop-keepers and the like lack both power and meaningful access to small scale credit to ply their trade and prosper. And we are still chasing clan when it comes to vital position that needs a visionary leader to spearhead Ebira to greater heights? I will say the better we wake up to putting the right pegs in the right holes then Anebira will begin to say uhuru to our long sufferings in the land. You cannot put a mechanic in a shoemaker workshop and expect him to even perform anything not to talk of fairly. So also is putting visionless, disoriented, un-experienced person in a position that he will only be warming the seats and tables everyday in the name of ‘OUR CLAN MAN’. Let me also quote my humble General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR: “Central and critical to democracy is adherence to the rule of law. That is to say, no individual, institution, not even government itself can act outside the confines of law without facing sanctions.” If you are not adhering to the constitution that govern the existence, management and service of NULGE, then how do you expect that same body with a visionless leader to change the plight of the ordinary local government for the best? My people let us wake up and change these habits, because tomorrow your children will ask you. Daddy, mummy what was your own stand to putting the right people in the helms of affairs of an association that ought to have change the lives of this generation for the better.
