CLUB NOTES 23rd MARCH We had some important games down for decision at the weekend. Results were favourable by and large with our 13’A’s and 17s recording sizeable wins against Limerick FC and Aisling Annacotty ‘C’ respectively. But the performance of the weekend is reserved for our Under 15s who came from 4-1 down to beat fellow title challengers Mungret Regional in a nine goal thriller at Castlemungret. Our Under 17s played hosts to Aisling Annacotty’s third string and proved too strong, winning by five goals to nil. Jamie Wilson put us on our way and the same player then fired home from the penalty sort after Peter Casey had been brought down. Indeed, he had the opportunity to net a hat-trick when we were awarded yet another penalty but the Aisling keeper saved well. Rioghan Butler had us three ahead at the break while Keith Staunton and Pater Casey netted in the second half to maintain our title challenge. Cian de Brun, Jordan Connolly and new-comers, Eamonn Courtney and Ryan Kennedy, all performed well. Schoolboy Soccer: Under 15s Our Under 15s took a massive step in the League race when seeing off the challenge of Mungret Regional (away) on Saturday afternoon. We fell behind but the talismanic Cian O’Rahilly levelled. The homesters hit the front again and stretched their lead to 4-1 with about fifteen minutes remaining. It looked all over but our lads hung in there and boosted by a brilliant left foot strike by Cian O’Rahilly, laid siege to the Mungret goal winning a succession of corners. Christopher O’Hagan fired home in a crowded penalty area and then highly impressive left back, Kieran O’Connor, forced home the equaliser with about five minutes on the clock. We were decidedly fortunate as the home side raided up the left on a couple of occasions. With a couple of minutes left on the clock, Cian O’Rahilly swung the ball over from a corner on the right and centre-back Brian Daly, got the faintest of touches to send the ball to the net sparking joyous celebrations from his team mates. Our team was: Michael Quinn; Alex Lenihan; Kieran O’Connor; Brian Daly; Cian Galvin; Cian O’Rahilly; Martin Duggan; Christopher O’Hagan; Patrick Kenny; Jamie Stickle; Stephen Falvey Reserves: Jack O’Sullivan; Sam Frost; Jason Grace (all used). Under 13s Our Under 13’A’s took on Limerick FC in rather chilly conditions at Hogan Park. It produced ten goals in total. We led 5-0 at the interval and added another from the penalty spot early in the second half. Killian Dineen was outstanding on the day helping himself to four goals while Stephen O’Halloran and Jordan Freeman also found the net. Sean Erasmus hit a cracker for the hosts while Rhys Foley and Ben Greaney also netted. All their goals coming late on. Our team was: Kevin O’Grady; Shane Harney; Mark Moylan; Keith Dempsey; Sean McInerney; Ben Frost; Stephen O’Halloran; Conor O’Shaughnessy; Geordan Freeman; Killian Dineen; Ian Leonard Reserves: Ben Irwin; John O’Connor; Eoin Lynch; Niall Barrett (all used). We have but one game remaining – the winner takes all game – between Shannon Town in the near future. Our 13’B’s fell to a heavy 8-0 defeat against title chasing Shannon Town at the Greenhills. Daniel Okeke was outstanding at the back with best support coming from Alan Neill, Dean O’Donnell and Joachim Clohessy. Under 11s Our Under 11s received a walk-over from Star Rvs. Notes: • Well done to Eoghain Sherlock and Conor O’Shaughnessy who lined out for the L.D.S.S. in the Inter-League games recently.
