CM Orders Dismissal Ofn 3 Cops For Killing 8 Civilians In Anantnag, 14 YearsBackJammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has overruled recommendation for reinstatement of three policemen and ordered their dismissal for being allegedly involved in the killing of eight civilian demonstrators in Brakpora, Anantnag, 14 years back.The Home Department has started the process of terminating the services of the men of the Special Operations Group (SOG), Anantnag, who have been found guilty in a departmental inquiry, of opening unwarranted fire on a demonstration protesting extra-judicial execution of five civilians by the Army in a fake encounter at Pathribal. Eight demonstrators died and over a dozen were injured in the shootout in March 2000.Official sources told The Hindu that Mr Abdullah, as Minister in-charge of Home, disagreed with the recommendation of the former DeputyInspector General of Police (CID) N.D. Wani and directed Principal Secretary Home Suresh Kumar to complete the process of the dismissal of the three cops. Sources in J&K Police Headquarters confirmed having received the Home Department’s direction. “The dismissal process is underway,” a senior police officer said.Mr Wani, who conducted the departmental inquiry and submitted a report before his retirement on September 12, 2013, found the three policemen — Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar, Head Constable Krishen Kumar and Selection Grade Constable Chaman Lal – guilty.
