CM chairs high level meeting on security of educational institutions Handout No.3 Peshawar 8st January 2015 The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to open the private and govt educational institutions all over the province as per announced schedule after security clearance. However decisions have been made to streamline Parents Teachers Councils (PTCs) besides launching mass awareness campaigns in this regard. All the educational institutions have been made bound to adopt basic security measures and fulfillment of major security needs in gradual manner. Similarly Police Chief has been directed to close the educational institution and arrest its principal that fail to catering the basic security needs. A high level meeting in this respect was held with KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair at CM Sectt Peshawar that took stock of the security arrangement of the educational institutions and necessary decisions were taken. The meeting besides provincial minister for higher education Mushtaq Ghani, minister for schools and literacy Muhammad Atif Khan, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani was largely attended by the administrative secretaries and other concerned authorities. The meeting threadbare discussed matters relating to boundary walls of educational institutions, presence of armed guards during educational timings, scanning of entry and exit points, installation of CCTVs, security of school buses and awareness of communities for the purpose. IGP told the participants that the system of sending security alerts to local police and specific points of security response unit through one click of a mobile in case of any danger in educational institutions has been operationalized. He said this system would enable the school administration to get immediate response of the local police as well as trained and equipped jawans of special response force for help and rescue. He said army jawans were also being included in these units wherein army authorities have given positive response in this respect. Pervez Khattak further directed for streamlining independent monitoring unit for catering the security needs and improvement in schools. He said that we would never put our future generations at the mercy of terrorist elements while the parents and communities would also be activated for the purpose besides the security and law enforcing agencies. He underlined the need of hectic role on part of the concerned officials in this regard. He said that the security and other requirements of educational institutions would be fulfilled on priority basis that would greatly help in improving standard of education and learning trends of the children. He said that it was essential to give the parents a full realization that their school going children would return home quite safe and sound.
