CMad’s Mini Sermons: Husbands and wives, in I Peter 3:7, - TopicsExpress

CMad’s Mini Sermons: Husbands and wives, in I Peter 3:7, we find these words, “giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel”. Just like many other things in the Word, we read just one part of this and try to implement it into our lives; thus failing to gain true understanding as to what God is trying to tell and show us. His Word specifically states, “and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). Husbands, our wife is our “help meet”, our support and often our balance. Picture, if you will, being at the gym and trying to max out on the bench press machine. Would you really want to choose a spotter that is weak? I think not! We typically choose a workout partner that is of equal or greater strength than us. Why then do some of us go home and treat our wife, the very person that God placed in our life to help us, as though they are weak? Where is the “honor” in that? I’ll answer the question for you. There is no honor. Dictionary defines honor as, “high respect, as for worth, merit or rank”. Though God has placed the husband as the head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23, I Corinthians 11:3), husbands, it is vitally important that we respect the role and responsibility of the vessel that is made to help and support us. Additionally, as the head, you MUST ensure that you are leading a life worth following. Wives, please understand the importance of your duty and the awesome responsibility it carries. Your husband does not want, need or desire another head in the house (other than Christ). After all, have you ever seen two heads joined together and moving as a fully functional body? No! Instead, he needs the vessel (body)- YOU- (Genesis 2:22-25) that was created to be united with him to support him in word, thought and deed. Understand, that statement in no way suggests that you are less than your husband. Rather, it honestly shows exactly how incomplete he is without you. Your designation is neither behind him nor in front of him. It’s WITH him! That way, you both are truly joined as one and made perfect in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26, 27)…..not a bunch of headless bodies and bodiless heads. Selah. -Your Brother in Christ C.W.
