CNN DO NOT KNOW THE LOCATION OF NIGERIA ON THE AFRICAN MAP !!! ============================================== CNN is a respected news channel with a global reach. Its brand across Africa is even stronger and some people would not think of anything wrong in swearing by what they saw on CNN as the whole truth and nothing but the truth.. CNN dominates international news viewership in Africa. On record, via TV and digital platforms CNN reaches 59% of Africa’s upscale population. (Source: ScreenAfrica) EMS Africa survey, which independently tracks viewership across seven African nations, revealed that CNN, especially CNN International, is the top news brand on the continent. And they did so by beating its English-language competitors BBC World News, Sky News and Al-Jazeera English by a wide margin. Rani Raad, SVP, CNN International Advertising Sales - Europe, Middle-East, Africa said CNNs level of viewership in Africa is an endorsement of the brands resonance across the region One would have expected that CNN with such a large viewership in Africa would have a fair knowledge of the African geography. CNN recently used a map of Africa to report the geographic spread of the dreadful Ebola Virus across West Africa. However CNN demonstrated an abysmal level of ignorance regarding the geography of Africa. CNN goofed by labelling The Republic of Niger as Nigeria. I found this terribly hilarious because first,Nigeria and Niger are two different countries, the difference in their spellings consists of not one but two vowels “ia”. It is also embarrassing to displace the location of an entire country by about 1,000km. This silly error is like putting the United Kingdom in France on a map just because they are so close together!!! CNN relocates Nigeria to Niger CNN seemed to have acquired a well earned reputation for displaying a poor knowledge of geography especially for Countries outside the North America. In 2012, CNN blundered and puts London in Norwich on a map!!!. CNN relocates London to Norwich Again, in 2013, CNN made another embarrassing blunder of relocating Hong Kong to South America on their map. It is almost like developing an entirely new map projection which transposes countries according to wish and caprices of CNN. The map was used to illustrate a news story on Chinas outbreak of deadly Hornets. CNN puts Hong Kong in South America These blunders are becoming too embarrassing and they vividly demonstrate CNNs notorious bad sense of geography. I am not sure CNN has no cartographer as part of its huge workforce, if it does then the guy should be sacked for gross incompetence and misrepresentation of material facts.
