CNN included a few minutes on the gay rights movement at the very end of Part 9 of their series The Sixties. Personally, wed file it under Something Is Better Than Nothing at All—and better still than Tom Brokaws infamous erasure of the gay rights movement in his book on the era. But not only is it too short, Frank Kameny of course, was not, as they assert, a founder of the original Mattachine. He was the co-founder of something much more lasting because, unlike the original, it was consciously public, militant, and uncompromising in its insistence that we are the experts on ourselves—the independent original Mattachine Society of Washington.
