We are very pleased to bring you a new exhibition by SBG photographer, Vedran Perse! The exhibition is called “Free” and covers the type of people who choose to live their lives differently, outside the realm of acceptability and conformity. Such a decision comes with consequences, as the world crushes such ideology. In the ‘normal’ world, you need a bullet proof CV to get a decent job, a credit score and regular income to get a mortgage, enough money to pay for your 1.8 children to go to the right school and a nest egg for a rainy day. Most of all, you must want these things. These people choose to have none of them. Of course, these photographs represent not ‘other people’ but ourselves, - the choice is always there, on the table. Their world is not a Utopia but one of challenge, misunderstanding and prejudice. Why is it so hard? Some say because “Society” ensures that this this is not a viable option. If it allowed for it and more embraced it, society as we know would collapse. What we would find instead, well that is the question, perhaps it is something that only exists in their minds. A glance in the eyes tells you they have seen such a place and can never go back. Freedom, comes at a cost. The photographs were taken in London (UK), Boston (US) and Zagreb (Croatia). We end with a quote from Jack Kerouac , “The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved”.
