COAST DAILY WEATHER REPORT: CLOUDY WITH SURF BUILDING - HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR 19-24 BREAKERS (NOTE: Here are the conditions sent in the daily coast weather report by MSP to the CoCoRAHS Network - were station CA-MD-5 (in Elk). The highest wind speed yesterday on shore in Mendocino was 19 mph recorded @ 11:54 am. Sunrise was 7:14 am, sunset is 4:50 pm. Length of day is 9 hours, 36 minutes, 43 seconds - 47 seconds shorter than yesterday. The moon phase is Waning Gibbous (90% illuminated). Almost a sunset but wall of clouds put the kabosh on it 20 minutes before it was due to settle below the horizon. We are 3-for-8 in sunsets for December November 18/30 sunsets = 60% October 17/31 sunsets = 55% There have been 343 days so far this year, there are 22 days left. There is a 5.62 HIGH tide @ 11:54 am & a MINUS 0.37 LOW tide at 6:57 pm in Mendocino Bay. Mostly cloudy, with lows mostly in the middle 50s. SSE wind between 11-14 mph. Wednesday: Rain, mainly after 10:00 am. Highs around 60. Breezy, with a SSE wind between 26-29 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Wednesday Night: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Lows mostly in the middle 50s. NWS EUREKA (OCEAN): SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING & GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING... The National Weather Service issued a Marine Weather Statement:STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS & LARGE WAVES EXPECTED THIS WEEK... A LARGE SWELL WILL BUILD INTO THE WATERS ON TUESDAY TO AROUND 16 - 17 FEET AT 17 - 18 SECONDS. ADDITIONAL LONG PERIOD SWELLS WILL BUILD INTO THE WATERS WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. THESE SWELLS WILL RESULT IN LARGE BREAKING WAVES WITH A SIGNIFICANT SHOALING HAZARD NEAR SANDBARS. ADDITIONALLY, A STRONG STORM SYSTEM WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BRING STORM FORCE SOUTHERLY WINDS TO THE WATERS WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT. VERY STEEP SEAS WILL BUILD IN RESPONSE TO THE STRONG WINDS WITH SEAS PEAKING OVER 20 FEET. MARINERS ARE URGED TO BE PREPARED FOR DETERIORATING CONDITIONS & KEEP AWARE OF THE LATEST FORECAST FOR POSSIBLE UPDATES. The forecast in the coastal waters from Cape Mendocino to Point Arena out to 10 nautical miles (They use ALL CAPS): A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL BRING DETERIORATING CONDITIONS TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY. CONDITIONS WILL INCLUDE LARGE STEEP SOUTHERLY WAVES & A LARGE WESTERLY SWELL UNDER GALE FORCE WINDS. WINDS & SEAS ARE FORECAST TO EASE BY THE WEEKEND. Waves SE 5 at 7 seconds & W 13 at 15 seconds. Chance of showers. SURFING CONDITIONS (From Swellinfo):Well overhead-high W ground swell with occasional double overhead-high sets. Fairly clean conditions in the morning with SSE winds 10-15 mph. Light sideshore texture conditions for the afternoon as the winds lighten to 5-10 mph. MSP WEATHER PHOTOS--(TOP) The swells coming in started to build Monday afternoon - theyre 14.4 now (8:00 am) and should break the twenty foot mark this afternoon. (BOTTOM) Mother Nature tried to squeeze out a sunset but wasnt successful - she did produce some nice cloud formations & colors though.
