COFFEE AND THEOLOGY? HAIR AND THEOLOGY? OH YEAH! Hat-tip to Dr. - TopicsExpress

COFFEE AND THEOLOGY? HAIR AND THEOLOGY? OH YEAH! Hat-tip to Dr. Joel Scandrett, who now teaches at Trinity School for Ministry, my alma mater. TSM is well known for asserting connections between theology and obscure subject matter. When I was a seminarian there, we uncovered from the Holy Scripture the hidden doctrine of Evangelical Hair based on Judges 16:17b, If my hair were cut, I would lose my strength and be as weak as anybody else. Hence, many of us male ordinands sported long flowing mullets and future female clergy had hair like Princess Diana. We even wrote Ember Day Letters to our sponsoring Bishops, humbly requesting if at ordination we might be presented with four things: 1) a comb, 2) a can of hairspray, 3) the Bible and 4) the Book of Common Prayer Book. We were all turned down! Sadly, this resulted in some well-groomed future pastoral leaders to abandon the Episcopal ship and join various independent Evangelical churches where comb, hairspray and Bible were regarded as necessary for all clergy (male and female alike). For confirmation of this tid-bit of Anglican history, I would ask my fellow TSMites to chime in; Janie Donohue, Janet Roberts Echols, Charles Glantzberg, Geoff Simpson, Gray T. Echols, Gail Egerton Marsden, Greg Brewer, Bill Blomquist, Bill Henry, Bill E Gandenberger, Dan Klooster, Daniel F. Crawford, Daniel Morgan, Martha Vetter, Tony Hartman, Martha Giltinan, Tina Lockett, Tina Wurschmidt, and all others that I have failed to name.
