COLYER Kenneth Howard, 90, of Hawthorne passed away November 12, 2014. His passion was our God, his family, his town and his country. He was a life-long resident of Hawthorne, and member of the First Reformed Church of Hawthorne where he served as the Vice President of Consistory and Sunday School Teacher. He was a 1942 graduate of Hawthorne High School. He served in the US Army during WWII where he was a Staff Sergeant and Quartermaster of the 282nd Platoon. He was founder of Colyer Homes since 1947, and a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, where he served as President, American Legion Post 199, and VFW Post 1593, serving as Quartermaster. He served as Councilman and Council President of Hawthorne. He was a humble, generous, and caring person. He is survived by his two sons, Kenneth John (Carol) of Ridgewood, Glenn William (Eileen) of Hawthorne, and his daughter, Anne Marie Stewart (Jeff) of Big Rapids, MI, ten grandchildren, Kristin Massey (Jeff) of Long Island, NY, Kate Sweeney (Sean) of Haskell, Karin and her fiancé Alex of Hanoi, Vietnam, Bill Colyer (Janine) of Hawthorne, Kathleen Colyer of Hawthorne, Kimberly Colyer of Hawthorne, David Colyer of Hoboken, Edward K. Stewart (Marcia) of Colorado Springs, CO; eight and a half great-grandchildren, Lilayla, Micah, Ian, Liam, Edward, Mallory, Declan and Wesley. There are many, many great-grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ann Colyer (nee: Glenney), his two brothers Wallace and Robert, and his sister Helen Rose (Colyer). Funeral will be at 10 AM on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the First Reformed Church, 279 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, NJ 07506, meeting at church. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. Friends may visit at Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne on Sunday from 2-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Reformed Church, Hawthorne.
