COMMUNION: OCTOBER 26, 2014. “LET A MAN EXAMINE HIMSELF” Paul’s chapter on communion- 1 Corinthians 11: advises the believer to examine themselves so they may be worthy of partaking in the communion. (Some translations state that one should do so to ‘rightly discern’ what this action is all about.) Can we ‘discern’ what we have done this past week that has caused division in the body of Christ, or anxiety and hostility in our brothers and sisters? Have we sought the Lord’s help to avoid these actions in the future? Have we recognized how much sin grieves the Lord? In such, we are examining our lives to see if we really want to be at table with our human family here at this moment today. And if we do not want to be at table with these men and women of God now, why do we believe we want too go to Heaven to spend Eternity with Jesus…and them? Break down the barriers of hatred and hostility. Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors, and pray for those who appear ‘unloveable’ to you. In this way, we build up our fellowship-communion, and see that all are equally welcome to come to Jesus. Take your communion today, and bring to the Throne of Grace, and the Table, the needs of someone especial in your life who does not have the love of God in their hearts. Offer your prayer of praise for them, and may it take a banquet hall eternally big to seat all the saints in glory. Take, and eat, and remember Jesus died for you…and for them.
