COMMUNITY: Eli and I are home after 3 weeks living among thousands in a huge local (non-glamorous) apartment building in Kuala Lumpur. We talked to many people from different countries everyday as we went to the pool and got our watermelon juice, roti and curries. We made jokes with the security as we went in and out, and had exchanges with the local food sellers we came to know. This was all while we were looking after my father, ill with emphysema, who lives with his flat mate and best friend on the top floor. But Im blessed with my divine family, and now were home, I couldnt be happier to be with my husband Ben again, Busta the dog and Smog the cat, and knowing my friends are all fairly nearby and that grandma will be visiting once every few months.....but, it is also really sad to not be able to help my dad move around the apartment, and to know that he is alone. I think it is such a loss that our modern world has developed so we no longer are in close living contact with our elderly and cant immediately assist them with their passage and later life difficulties...and share their experience. I think this is why everyone loves festivals so much... the feeling of having so many people around sharing the same joys, even the time on the airplane with so many friendly face for so many hours, and then theres that feeling of loneliness when we all go home.
