COMPUTERS – AGELESS LEARNERS WORKSHOPS - Debb Wolfe NOTE: These workshops are held at the Columbus Business Center (1415 17th Street). All computer classes are currently taught on a Windows 7 operating system. The skills learned in this class are easily transferred to a Windows Vista and Windows 8 operating system environment. These workshops offer hands-on individualized assistance (they are not a structured classroom environment). They are designed to create an interactive lab, where we learn from each other and try to explore issues, etc. These workshops correspond with the Ageless Learner classes. Each workshop is limited to 10, so register early. (You may sign up for all of them at once.) 1B. PERSONALIZE YOUR COMPUTER/LAPTOP – Thursday, September 19 (9am-12pm) $24 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “1a. Intro to the Computer” class. This workshop will show you how to change the settings on your computer, such as the view of your desktop and screen saver; how to change the settings on the speed of your mouse; how to defrag your computer; how to run your virus protection, etc. Participants will be shown how to do these things, so they can then go back to their own computer and change the settings to fit their needs. 2B. MOUSE AND KEYBOARD PRACTICE – Thursday, September 26 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “2a. Intro to the Mouse & Keyboard” class. This workshop will offer participants an interactive environment to practice with the mouse and locating all the keys on the keyboard to enhance their skills when using the computer. 3B. SURFING THE WEB & CREATE/EDIT YOUR FAVORITES LIST – Thursday, October 3 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “3a. Intro to the Internet” class. Prerequisites: Previous experience using the Internet. With this workshop participants will learn more about how to use the internet. This workshop will help to assist the participant with using the search engines to research information. Participants will learn how to set up/edit/rearrange/organize their favorites list. 4B. CUT/COPY/PASTE FUNCTIONS – Thursday, October 10 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “4a. Intro to Microsoft Word” class. Prerequisites: Previous experience using Microsoft Word software. This workshop helps the participants to understand the process of “cut”, “copy” and “paste” to use when creating a document. They will also learn how to apply these features interactively between a document, the internet and an email. 5B. SAVE & ORGANIZE YOUR PERSONAL DIGITAL FILES – Thursday, October 17 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “5a. How/Where do you save your files..” class. This workshop will help participants set up the file organization for their personal files and pictures. Stress will be placed on moving files from one drive to another. Participants will also learn how to save pictures from the internet to their computers. Each participant is required to bring in their own jump drive if they want to set up their personal files. 6.B CREATE/MANAGE YOUR INTERNET EMAIL ACCOUNT – Thursday, October 24 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “6a. Intro to Email” class. Prerequisites: Previous experience using Yahoo! email. This workshop will help the participant sign up with a Yahoo email account. And to gain a further understanding of having several email accounts, and how they can be used. Other on-line email accounts will be discussed. Emphasis is placed on management of the account (personal settings). 6C. LOAD/ORGANIZE YOUR EMAIL CONTACTS LIST – Thursday, October 31 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “6a. Intro to Email” class. Prerequisites: Previous experience using Yahoo! email. This workshop will help the participant to actually input all their contacts. They will also learn how to create mailing “Lists” for their accounts. Students must bring a list of their email contacts (with complete email addresses). 6D. USING YOUR EMAIL – Thursday, November 7 (9-11am) $17 NOTE: This is a follow-up session to “6a. Intro to Email” class. Prerequisites: Previous experience using Yahoo! email. This workshop will help the participant to locate their files and send in an email. They will also learn how to scan in items, save them, and then attach and send in an email. If you have an actual file you wish to send, either bring in on jump drive, or bring the item to scan in.
