CONCERNS..... Just got this from the newsletter of First Christian Church in Colorado Springs: NAACP Office Bombing On Tuesday, a home-made bomb was set off at the office building that houses the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP (Read the Gazette update HERE). I echo the words of our Interim Regional Minister Dean Phelps who wrote yesterday: I give thanks that no one was injured and that the explosion evidently did not cause the intended damage. Nevertheless, whatever the motivation or intent, it is distressing that someone would choose to express their emotions through anonymous violence. I hope you will add your prayers to mine for the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP, its president, Henry D. Allen, Jr., the community of Colorado Springs, and the perpetrator, whoever that may turn out to be. Additionally, we received words of support from the Disciples Minister for Reconciliation, Rev. April Johnson, who reached out as soon as she heard the news: I am writing you to express my support for the communities in and near Colorado Springs impacted by yesterdays bombing of the NAACP offices. This is yet another tragedy that has visited upon this Region that I am sure is the result of individual malfeasance and not the ethos of the community. However, such an attack is an attack on the psyche of persons who have benefited from and who are supporters of this historic human rights advocacy organization nationwide. Again from Dean: As children of God, we continue to be led by the Spirit of God, not backward into a spirit of fear but forward into a spirit of adoption, not backward into separation and brokenness but forward into reconciliation and wholeness. May you know the peace that passes understanding, even when the news disturbs and disrupts.
