CONK LAMPS . A few years ago we sailed to the Turks and Caicos Islands which were then just starting to become touristic resorts, The first Americans had just arrived and I teamed up with the guy known as pioneer one. PIONEER ONE lived in a garage where he made furniture from old wooden boats, I was amazed at the beautiful things made from old wood So I decided to work with him for a while and learn. There was a new hotel being built on the beach, So I decided to make the lights and the illuminations for all of the bedrooms, These lights are made from CONK SHELLS mounted on drift wood in an L-shaped wood with a conk shell standing on the bottom layer with the bulb inside, When the owner of the new hotel saw the beautiful lights he ordered 500, So PIONEER ONE, and I set Up the workshop specially for this. As more and more pioneers arrived, I realised that they needed plants for their new Gardens, food ,mosquito coils, even matches ,and cheese, but most of all (sweet things ) like honey, As HAITI was only 120 miles away by sea,. I once again set sail, taking with me the profits in cash from the conk lamp sales. In Haiti I rented a Jeep, And drove up into the mountains taking with me five large 200 gallon oiled drums which I have cleaned. In the mountain valleys I bought all the honey I could arrange for one dollar a litre. After loading the drums aboard survival, I returned to the mound teens to order as many young trees already in parts plants flowers and had them delivered by horse ,and cart to survival, Once I had everything loaded on top of survival it was like an island the only thing you could see was the top of the mast sticking out above the trees ,just enough space to put up a hanky chief sail, or a golly wobbler, The voyage back to the islands to the Turks was down wind all with the wind. And with the island of trees also acting as a sale we returned ,in only two days. The pioneers were on the beach waiting there was competition as to who could buy from me all of the plants ,and trees as their new houses needed Gardens ,there was no trees on the Turks and Caicos Islands ,no plants ,as it was a volcanic rock. I spent about a year, Making those volcanic rock islands into beautiful garden islands, I then brought the bees live bees as they now have flowers on which to pollinate and make honey.to conclude I made money , they now had there own honey, and a green tropical island . Thanks to our pioneering spirits. Message from CAPTAIN CLIVE KELLY .
