CORRECTION: Re—Ex-Gambian SG Rejects Jammeh’s Job Offer (JollofNews) – A former secretary general and head of the Gambian Civil Service has turned down his appointment as the Gambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa. Ousman Jammeh, was appointed as the Gambia’s first ambassador to the southern African country last month by President Yahya Jammeh. However, sources at the Gambia’s ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad told JollofNews that Mr Jammeh has turned down the offer on health grounds. Mr Jammeh was in December 2011 given a three-year jail term with hard labour by the Banjul Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to ‘negligence of official duty, abuse of office and economic crimes.
