CRIME AGAINST NGO If you think that protecting children in a shelter home just depends upon social workers professional skills alone, you may be wrong. On 30.6.2014 an old lady came with her 12 years old granddaughter begging to keep the child in our shelter for homeless girls stating that she came form Villupuram having no place to go and that they are poor and pennyless without protection, that she is going to Villupuram to bring her daughter. Gave proof of her claim. Within 30 minutes of being in the shelter the girl jumped the gate and ranaway. Lady staff members start searching and complaint to the police at 10.pm in the night. Police alert all stations. Next day our staff gave a written complaint. No FIR filed. After 2 days we found that the girl was in a slum under the custody of a Corporation Counsellor. When asked to give the child, she demands money stating she had to pay the Police to find her. We inform the police and ask to rescue they do not take action. SMS to Commissioner was sent to rescue the child and to file an FIR. Assurance from COP offc, but Inspector takes no action. Upon further request we were informed, police handed over the child to grand mother. She infact had relatives and that the counsellor sent the child to our shelter and use the opportunity to extort money. Police refuse to file an FIR to our complaint but filed FIR, to cover up, to the grandmothers complaint and allowed the counsellor to threaten our staff at the police station. Police take no action. We have sent a complaint to COP against the police and Counsellor.
