CUSTOMER SERVICES APPRENTICE THE CLOSING DATE FOR THIS APPRENTICESHIP IS FRIDAY 11TH OCTOBER To work in one of Redcar and Cleveland’s specialist design and installation service for signage and related materials. The successful apprentice will be willing to carry out a wide range of duties including the physical installation of signage, signage design and dealing with customers. It is important that the successful apprentice has a positive and ‘can do’ attitude and will work well with the existing management team. Specific information on the business to be added. The job role will be to: Present a professional image when dealing with business clients either over the telephone, email or face-to-face Communicate clearly, both face-to-face and on the telephone to a variety of people Take accurate messages and make telephone calls to business clients Demonstrate a flexible approach to work, sometimes working beyond normal working hours Assist with the physical installation of all types of signage, including sign boards, shop fascias, sign posts and vehicle graphics To update, retrieve and input information accurately onto the business systems. The software used is: Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator Use the specialist printing and signage equipment Maintain records and files both manually and electronically Carry out accurate stock take of materials and update stock system Demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills to a business acceptable standard Take an active interest in the business and its clients Demonstrate a commitment to developing personal skills in accordance with the apprenticeship framework and business needs Complete work requested for the Apprenticeship framework Undertake all duties as requested Duties and responsibilities: • Design signs or plan work to a pre-prepared design • Measure and calculate letter and sign size • Prepare surfaces • Install signs on site using appropriate tools and equipment • To follow all health and safety procedures, including the wearing of appropriate personal protection equipment • Deal, as directed, with paperwork, quotes, invoices and emails • Maintain stock records. Previous experience and qualifications No set qualifications are needed to become a sign writer; however GCSE Art or Design and Technology may be an advantage. GCSE grade C or above is required in Mathematics as the role will involve calculating areas and accurate measurements for applying signs and quantities of materials to be used. GCSE grade C or above is required in English Language, or equivalent, as it is essential that the applicant has good spelling skills and is able to proof-read documents and designs accurately. The role will involve accurate measurement and carrying out calculations. The applicant should be IT literate with some knowledge of Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator useful. The applicant should have knowledge of different font types, styles and design. Any experience dealing with customers or working as part of a team would be an advantage to the applicant. Other information The apprentice may be required to work evenings and weekends as part of their working week. The working week will be divided between working in the design studio and installing signs off site. The successful applicant will be expected to work at heights inside the studio and off site; this could include working from ladders or suspended platforms. Manual lifting is part of this role. Due to the needs of the role, the applicant must have normal colour vision.
