Call for entries - National Annual Quality Awards (NAQA) 2013 The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) is proud to announce the opening of entries to the much awaited National Annual Quality Awards 2013. Entries opened on 1 May 2013 and will close on 19 August 2012. The National Annual Quality Awards (NAQA) aims to achieve competiveness for public and private sectors, large, small and medium scale enterprises through sustained application of productivity and quality principles and adopting of business excellence practices in Zimbabwe. The competition can be used as a tool to provide structured and robust criteria upon which organisations can carefully assess their quality achievements and successes as well as identify areas that need improvement. It is organized by the National SQAM Committee which is represented by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe , SIRDC, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe, and NLAZ which form an integral part of the national quality infrastructure amongst other organisations. The competition has five categories, four of which are open to the large enterprises and small and medium enterprises and a fifth which is the individual category as follows: Category 1 — Company of the Year; Category 2 — Product of the Year; Category 3 — Service of the Year; Category 4— Exporter of the Year Category 5 — SADC/SQAM Individual Award of the Year. The SAZ is encouraged that Zimbabwe managed to clinch two awards at the just ended regional SADC Quality awards 2012 represented by Servcor for the Large Enterprise Southern African Company of the year, whilst Packers International (Private) Limited trading as Chicken Slice won the Large Enterprise Southern African Service of the Year. Servcor, being a SAZ certified company has demonstrated that their strategies and processes are based on trusted and recognized best practices. Indeed, Servcor has managed to stretch itself in terms of sustainable quality of service delivery thus putting Zimbabwe on the regional map. It is the desire of SAZ to see products and services originating from Zimbabwe fiercely penetrating the global market without any hindrances and obstacles pertaining to low quality. It is fitting at this point to highlight that although other national company awards are in existence, none have the sole objective of promoting awareness of quality, productivity and competitiveness as do the National Quality Awards. The SAZ encourages all companies to take part in this year’s competition in order to further the understanding amongst companies of the requirements of the attainment of business excellence and successful deployment of quality management.
