Calling ALL Louisiana, southern Arkansas and east Texas SOUTHERN Sport Mods & LIMITED Modifieds (full-frame type)! You are welcome at Ark-La-Tex Speedway THIS Saturday night, August 9th for the 7th annual $3000 to win Tootsie Smith Memorial! Still NO entry fee, just a $30 pit pass and pays $200 just to START the A-main. Lots of other contingency awards and giveaways with some of it earmarked for non-qualifiers only. The action begins at 7:30! The informal lets-not-race-against-each-other arrangement that Ark-La-Tex, Boothill and Lonestar seem to have in place this year has been working quite well for all 3 tracks and it should mean a fun night for both the racers and especially the fans come Saturday and later, at the Battle of Boothill on August 22nd & 23rd and the Armadillo Nationals at Lonestar on September 25th, 26th and 27th. Big thanks to Timberline Speedway for being silent this weekend and to Sabine Motor Speedway for letting their Limited Modified class off this week. Beyond that, there are a few more choices for Limited Mods/SSMs perhaps than one might expect on the same night as a 7th annual event of this magnitude at a track thats been off for the last nine straight Saturdays. Thats ok. ALT wants to earn your attendance anyhow just like weve been doing this past 4 years since the Tootsie Smith Memorial first moved to Vivian. There was a well publicized date change for this event made back in January caused by the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track moving their show to the previously scheduled date. The first Ark-La-Tex TSM was held on this August weekend though in 2010 and Mark Smith himself got the win in the race named for his southwest Arkansas father who went by the name Tootsie Smith around the race tracks of the area. Mark was in the middle of a terrific 3-wide battle that year on a very hot night. Temps hit 105 earlier that day. The 2014 version has a forecast that is at least ten degrees cooler though -- just a normal summer day thankfully this time around! Mark Smith Racing and a fine list of sponsors have done another terrific job in providing a quality show for this class this year while still keeping costs down to you the racer. This event with this paydown still costs no more to race at than the average Saturday night show. Just buy a $30 pit pass and sign in! No entry fee and there are no car registration fees at Ark-La-Tex Speedway. Your only out-of-normal expense for this one is the fuel it takes to tow here. Thats it. Some of the merchandise and certificates that sponsors have brought to the show will be set aside for those not fortunate enough to make this $200 to start A-main such as... a spot in an upcoming class put on by Race Logic Chassis School out of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Brian Littleton puts on one of the best schools of this type anywhere and a big thanks to RLC and Brian for joining the Tootsie Smith Memorial in 2014. You know the rest... The race track conditions and show organization at Ark-La-Tex Speedway are tough to match up against anywhere. Theyve had a lot of practice. Saturday marks the 11th anniversary of the very first race at Gene Boyters Vivian 1/4 mile masterpiece of an oval. Calling it the land of 3-wide is no overstatement at all and his staff of officials, track workers and safety personnel have proven themselves repeatedly. Now its your call. I believe this Limited Modified class has the potential to be the next big thing in this area. We could use a little tweaking on the rules -- not much...maybe tires can get settled one day. Id love to see this event HAVE to be a two-day show just like the Doug Murphrey Memorial did with Modifieds. That hand can be called THIS Saturday night with a big turn-out. No doubt, the potential numbers are there. The DMM grew in size and reputation enough to get the attention of COMP Performance Group even with all the recent weather problems at that show. The Tootsie Smith Memorial is only one year newer and it can be next! Now... do we get another new winner who joins the list of Jared Landers, Chris Rye, Mark Smith, John Whittington, Jason Ingalls and Derick Grigsby or do we get our first repeat winner of the TSM at this 2014 edition? Lets find out together... Cya Saturday Night in Vivian!!!
