Calling all local homeschooled youth, ages 12-18! You are invited to participate in an exciting mock trial experience. You will learn how our justice system works through an interactive courtroom simulation. Play the part of an attorney, a witness or the bailiff! Practice attention to detail as you learn to think on your feet and polish your persuasive abilities. Learn about courtroom procedure, how to conduct direct and cross examinations, admission of evidence, and making objections. OPTION 1: JOIN THE LATTER-DAY LEARNING TEAM: We have openings for 4 attorneys and 5 witnesses, playing both plaintiff and defense sides. We also need a bailiff for the defense side. All aspects of case preparation will be taught during the coaching sessions. Some at-home preparation is necessary. The Latter-day Learning Team will participate in the official Utah Mock Trial Program by presenting the plaintiff side of the case at the Orem Courthouse on Tuesday, February 18th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, and the defense side of the case at the Scott Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City on Saturday, March 1st from 8:30 am – 11:30 am. Your family is invited to attend and watch you in action. OPTION 2: JOIN THE ALPINE HEIGHTS DEBATE CLUB TEAM We need two attorneys for our Team A defense trial, which will be held on Saturday March 1, 2014 from noon - 3:00 pm at the Scott Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. We have a practice on Feb 24. We have two Monday practices on Feb 17 and Feb 24 from 3:15 - 5:30 pm at the Norton home 650 E Healey Blvd Alpine, UT 84004. We also need three attorneys and two witnesses for our Team B Plaintiff trial, which is on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from noon - 3:00 pm at the Scott Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. Practice is on Feb 17 from 3:15 - 5:30 pm at the Norton home 650 E Healey Blvd Alpine, UT 84004. We also need one witness and a bailiff for our Team B Defense trial, which is on Monday, Feb 24th from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Scott Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. Practice is on Feb 17 from 3:15 - 5:30 pm at the Norton home 650 E Healey Blvd Alpine, UT 84004. Cost: $20 (Includes Mock Trial competition fee, handbook, coaching and materials.
