my aha today INCORRUPTIBLE HOPE Job 14:1–2, 7–12 For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its root may grow old in the earth, and its stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth branches like a plant. But man dies and is laid away; indeed he breathes his last and where is he? As water disappears from the sea, and a river becomes parched and dries up, so man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor be roused from their sleep. The mortality of man, who can deny? Here today, gone tomorrow. “He comes forth like a flower and fades away,” so says Scripture, so succinctly (Job 14:2). Even a tree has more hope. Cut it down and though its stump dies in the ground, yet at the scent of water it comes alive once more. Is man not superior to a tree? Is there no hope for man? Consider another tree. The tree of life, Christ, who grew up like a tender shoot before God, like a root out of dry ground (Isaiah 53:2, NIV). He was cut down and nailed to a tree for our transgressions. Cursed that we might be redeemed from the curse of death (Galatians 3:13). Because of Him, though we may grow old and lie in the ground, we shall rise again. At the scent of His Word—“COME UP HITHER!”—with a loud trumpet blast, the graves will open. And we who are dead in Christ, born of woman but also of the Spirit, will be raised incorruptible! 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. THEREFORE COMFORT ONE ANOTHER WITH THESE WORDS.
