Can I talk about King of Dragon Pass for a minute? Hilary recommended this game to me a few months back (thank you), and I started it up not knowing what to think. It ended up being one of the best games Ive ever played. This linked review describes it pretty well, its a largely text-based menu-driven mash up of a Civilization game and a Choose Your Own Adventure book. It takes place in a fantasy world, where you and your clan (loosely based on Nordic tribes) have fled your homeland to try and survive in the unsettled region of Dragon Pass. Theres an extremely deep and interesting pantheon of gods who occasionally help or hurt you, depending on your sacrifices to them. Youre forced to make decisions in random occurrences every other turn. Things you did ten years in the past could come back to haunt you, and every decision can make or break you. Its on GOG for $6. Theres also an HD remake on ios (iphones/ipods/ipads) for $10. I prefer the ios version because I can whip it out and play anywhere, and they continuously add new things to it that the original version on GOG wont get.
